Council service closures over Easter holidays

Customer service centres & libraries will be closed on Good Friday (29 March) through to Easter Monday (1 April). Waste Transfer Stations will be closed Good Friday. Bins will be collected as normal.

Items accepted at Recycling and Waste Centres

The tables below outline the different types of items accepted at our Recycling and Waste Centres.

Waste

ALL MIXED WASTE MUST BE HAND UNLOADED INTO THE APPROPRIATE BIN

Domestic/Residential mixed waste (General Waste Bins) including but not limited to:

Animals (deceased pets). Must be double wrapped and attendant notified.

Bean bags (Attendant must be notified. Bag must be placed on top so not to pop)

Boats (non metal). Must be <4m long or broken into pieces and hand unloaded

Domestic Asbestos / suspected asbestos < 10m2/250kg  

(Refer to Asbestos and fibro-cement sheeting for acceptance criteria and wrapping)

Residential, non-residential and commercial: Birkdale, Coochiemudlo, North Stradbroke, Macleay and Russell Islands

Residential only: Redland Bay in vehicles with a Gross Vehicle Mass (GVM*) less than 4.5 tonnes.

Household Hazardous Waste including :

Chemicals (including pesticides, cleaning chemicals). Liquids MUST be in a sealed container.

Fire Extinguishers

Flourescent bulbs and other lighting

Fuel. MUST be in a sealed container.

Mercury. MUST be a small quantity, in a glass jar, lid taped shut and labelled.

Mothballs

Paints - Liquid or solid.

Smoke alarms. Large quanties (>10 per load) will be deemed commercial and not accepted

Car batteries (Lead acid) All centres except Karragarra and Lamb Islands
Cardboard - including books without plastic All centres except Karragarra and Lamb Islands

 

Clean soil only (up to a maximum of 1m3). Any materials mixed in with the clean soil (including rocks and other ground material) must be separated out and hand unloaded into the general waste bins. Council no longer accepts pool digs, excavations or commercially transported clean fill.

 

Birkdale (residential and commercial up to a maximum of 1m3)

Redland Bay (residential only – one small ute/trailer load only)

 

Clothing and textiles Redland Bay

Electronic waste (E-waste) including:

Green waste and untreated timber - palm fronds, stumps (max 2m diameter X 1.5m height) and logs (max 4m length), turf (minimal soil attached).

Must be free from bags, packaging, plastic, ropes, garbage

Green screening with wire must be disposed of in general waste bins

Separate untreated timber stockpile at Birkdale and Redland Bay

Shredded paper (must be in a cardboard box/paper bag)

Vehicles (including car bodies, motorbikes, quad bikes, ride-on mowers) - Vehicle must be drained of engine oil; coolant; brake fluid; transmission fluid; differential fluids and all fuel. Must complete a vehicle dispoal declaration form. For disposal at Karragarra and Lamb Island, please email vehicle declaration form to Council prior to disposal.

All centres

Tyres or tyre-rims. Commercial fees will be applied to residential transactions if more than 4 tyres are disposed of in one trasaction or tyres larger than SUV/4WD size

All centres except Karragarra and Lamb Island

Residential and Commercial: Birkdale, Coochiemudlo, North Stradbroke, Macleay and Russell Islands. Fees apply for commercial operators and non-residents.

Residential Only: Redland Bay. 

Commercial mixed waste

All centres except Karragarra and Lamb Islands in vehicles with a Gross Vehicle Mass (GVM*) less than 4.5 tonnes.

Birkdale will accept vehicles with a Gross Vehicle Mass (GVM*) of more than 4.5 tonnes.
