What is commercial waste?

Vehicles with a GCVM > 4.5 tonnes are considered commercial and the relevant fees will apply.

What if I'm disposing of waste from home in a commercial vehicle?

You can still use a commercial vehicle to dispose of waste from home.

Check commercial and non-resident waste disposal fees and charges for full details.

Apply for a Commercial Vehicle Waiver online or via PDF form Application for a Commercial Vehicle Waiver and submit to Council

When disposing of commercial waste, commercial fees will still be applicable. Vehicles with a GCVM > 4.5 tonnes or tippers are considered commercial and relevant fees will apply.

Sorting your load

Save time and make the most of Council’s recycling facilities by sorting your load.

The way you load your vehicle can make your visit to a Recycling and Waste Centre safer and quicker. It also helps maximise resource recovery and reduce contamination when handling items in recycling areas.

  • Group similar items to make unloading easier
  • Group waste by drop-off types (recycling, green waste, timber, scrap metal, e-waste, general waste)
  • Pack your waste so you can unload landfill (mixed waste) first, followed by recycling
  • For utes and other open vehicles, make sure your waste is easily accessible – for your safety, do not stand on the back of your vehicle at a Recycling and Waste Centre.

Use of tipping vehicles

Tipping vehicles are considered commercial vehicles. If you're planning to bring domestic waste from your property using a tipping vehicle, apply for a Commercial Vehicle Waiver before your visit. Tipper must be under 4.5 tonnes GCVM. No waivers will be accepted for tippers over 4.5 tonnes GCVM.
