Redlands Coast is emerging as one of Queensland’s most strategically located investment destinations—situated between Brisbane CBD and the Gold Coast, and within immediate proximity to the Port of Brisbane and Brisbane Airport. This naturally beautiful coastal city combines subtropical lifestyle appeal with growing economic muscle. Unlike other coastal regions, Redlands Coast offers lower operational costs, and direct access to Queensland’s fastest-growing markets. Our local economy grew by 2.2%, generating over AUD 8 billion in Gross Regional Product in the year ending June 2024 and exported over 2 billion in goods and services.

With a pipeline of major transformative projects, like the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympics venue at Birkdale, and a Council team ready to support desired investment and partnerships, Redlands Coast is ripe with opportunity. The city's population is projected to approach 210,000 by 2046 and Redland City Council is focused on industry diversification, workforce upskilling, destination development and infrastructure investment - all aimed at positioning Redlands Coast as a great place to live, invest, and visit, while further strengthening a growing South East Queensland economy.

Economic landscape

Our economic development strategy is built on leveraging the city’s unique characteristics and delivering sustainable growth through areas such as investment attraction, infrastructure development, workforce training, job creation, and industry expansion.

The economic development strategy is based on the Redland City Plan. The Redland City Plan is Council's planning scheme and contains the framework for the management of development within the city. It is a statutory document that regulates how land may be used, developed or protected by landowners. Effectively a blueprint for development within Redlands City over the next 25 years.

Sectors of interest include advanced manufacturing, care economy, tourism, education, and agribusiness, supported by council-led initiatives, streamlined approvals, and tailored support for new and expanding businesses. Redlands Coast is not just ready for investment, it’s actively enabling it.
