Redland City Plan

The Redland City Plan is Council's planning scheme and contains the framework for the management of development within the city. It is a statutory document that regulates how land may be used, developed or protected by landowners. Effectively a blueprint for development within Redlands City over the next 25 years.

Economic Development Framework

The Economic Development Framework charts a direction for business growth and job generation and highlights the key focus areas for the Redland City’s business community. Given the pace of change in the economy over the past ten years and interrupting events such as the pandemic, the current Economic Development Framework 2014-2041 is currently under review.

Dunwich Ferry Terminal Upgrade, North Stradbroke Island

The South East Queensland City Deal includes an initial investment of $41 million to upgrade a ferry terminal at Dunwich (Goompi) to include a new pontoon, shelters, and retail and commercial premises. The upgraded infrastructure and services will create a first-class arrival point, boosting tourism and supporting businesses on North Stradbroke Island (Minjerribah). This is a joint partnership between the Australian Government, Queensland Government and Redland City Council.

Birkdale Community Precinct

Birkdale Community Precinct is poised for growth as a vibrant, integrated hub offering:

  • Modern Community Facilities supporting a high quality of life
  • Strategic Location with strong transport connectivity
  • Sustainable Growth driven by ongoing infrastructure and service expansion

Birkdale Community Precinct is the largest, most encompassing and diverse community project ever planned by Redland City Council for Redlands Coast. Set on 62 hectares of land, the precinct presents an opportunity to be a prime gateway for Redlands Coast. It will be a destination in its own right, featuring:

• a public swimming lagoon

• food and entertainment hubs, including a stage for open-air movies, concerts, and theatre

• an international standard whitewater centre and adventure playground (see also Redland Resilience Training and Whitewater Centre - Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic venue)

• bush trails with access to Tingalpa Creek for canoe and kayaking

• dedicated facilities for cultural and environmental experiences

• a circuit running track and other fitness opportunities, and

• an array of other community facilities.

It will also feature and celebrate two heritage properties that exist on the site: a former World War II Radio Receiving Station, built by the US Army in 1943; and Willards Farm, one of the city’s earliest homesteads, restoration of which will begin in 2023. With the precinct earmarked as an event venue for the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games, there are numerous opportunities for Redland City Council to work with all levels of government and other partners to provide new and upgraded infrastructure (including transport projects) to and around Redlands Coast.

Capalaba Town Centre Revitalisation

Redland City Council, in partnership with Redland Investment Corporation (RIC), is delivering an exciting multi-million-dollar revitalisation of a 1.55-hectare site in the urban heart of Capalaba. In October 2022, Redland City Council entered into a development agreement with RIC and Shayher Group to take the next steps in delivering the transformation. The agreement will deliver a $250 million project with a commercial precinct, a new library, customer service centre and arts space, an employment hub, a diverse mix of dining, retail and entertainment uses to create a day/night economy and bring much-needed infrastructure to improve the connectivity of the area.

A new master planned urban community including town center, residential and open space precincts, accommodating approximately 10,000 people. Delivered by Lend lease and acquired by Stockland alongside its partner Supalai.

Redlands Coast Regional Sport and Recreation Precinct

Council has plans to develop a Redlands Coast Regional Sport and Recreation Precinct at 277-293 Heinemann Road, Mount Cotton.

The project is designed to meet the current and future sport and recreation needs of Redlands Coast while also protecting a significant area of natural habitat.
