Lagoon area

The lagoon area is a flagship component of the world-class Birkdale Community Precinct and is intended to provide an inclusive, accessible and family-friendly aquatic recreation facility, supporting the project’s broader heritage and place-making role as a regional destination that our Redlands Coast community can be proud of.

With a water surface spanning across more 2,000sqm, the lagoon area will include both an adult and children’s swimming lagoons, waterplay area, toddler splash zone, accessible beach and ramp entries, amenities, plant and equipment, landscaped public realm and a two-storey pavilion incorporating food, beverage and community use opportunities.

Extensive community engagement undertaken through the precinct visioning and master planning process identified strong support for swimming, water play, adventure sport and family-focused recreation uses.

The lagoon area responds to a community-driven need for low-cost, inclusive and accessible aquatic recreation.

The lagoon provides a major public recreation anchor for the precinct, creating opportunities for the community to engage with the site’s cultural, heritage and environmental values, working not as a single-purpose facility, but creating an integrated community and tourist destination in its own right.
