Parking at Weinam Creek

Weinam Creek at Redland Bay gateway to the Southern Moreton Bay Islands, including Macleay, Lamb, Karragarra and Russell Islands.

The Weinam Creek precinct was declared a Priority Development Area (PDA) in 2013. Stage 1 of the project delivered more than 500 new car parks to the area within the Moores Rd car park.

For many years, Redland City Council has advocated for the State Government to fund or deliver car parking infrastructure at the Weinam Creek ferry terminal, consistent with arrangements at other Translink transport hubs across Queensland. In April 2026, the State Government commenced a compulsory land acquisition process at the Weinam Creek Ferry Terminal to support delivery of a multi-storey car park.

The area remains under construction and parking will continue to evolve while the project takes shape. It is important to continue to monitor parking and construction signage signage during this time.

Public unpaid parking

Public unpaid parking is located in and around the:

  • Weinam Creek ferry terminal
  • Moores Rd car park
  • Banana Street temporary car park
  • Barge terminal

Restrictions and signage

Areas of Weinam Creek have various time restrictions, from loading zones to a few hours and even seven days. Additionally, some spaces are shared by boat trailers and vehicles at certain times. It is vital to check the signage carefully to avoid a parking fine.

Parking changes at Moores Road, Redland Bay

The Moores Road car park was delivered as part of stage one of the Weinam Creek Priority Development Area project, in partnership with Redland Investment Corporation. It provides more than 500 additional parking spaces for Southern Moreton Bay Islands commuters.

Council is introducing parking changes at the Moores Road car park from mid-July 2026 as part of ongoing improvements to access and parking at the Weinam Creek precinct.

The changes are designed to improve parking turnover and make it easier for commuters and visitors to find a space when travelling to and from the Southern Moreton Bay Islands and across Redlands Coast.

If you regularly park at Weinam Creek, check the updated signage before leaving your vehicle.

What's changing

Updates at the Moores Road car park will include new signage and timed parking zones:

The 384 unrestricted spaces will change to:

  • 297 spaces with 168-hour (7-day) parking 87 spaces with 72-hour (3-day) parking
  • 38 existing 72-hour (3-day) vehicle-with-boat-trailer spaces will change to 24-hour (1-day) parking

These changes aim to better manage demand, particularly during peak commuter periods, and support fairer access to parking.

FAQs

How many car parks will be available and what happens if the population continues to grow on the islands?

Stage 1 of the Weinam Creek PDA redevelopment project provided more than 500 new car parks to the precinct. Once the project is completed, there will be a minimum of more than 2,200 car parks within the project, with opportunity to add an additional level to the car park facility, if required.

What is being done to combat illegal parking activity such as long-term vehicle storage?

Council will adopt a realistic and pragmatic attitude to this activity during the construction phase but ultimately the area will need to operate under the same bylaws as other areas of the Redlands. Please continue to monitor changed parking conditions signage while Council delivers this much-needed infrastructure.

Where will Southern Moreton Bay Island commuters park during the construction of the multi-level car park?

Everything possible is being done to find temporary car spaces to ensure the area remains fully functional when construction of the multi-storey car park starts in late 2026. Council are making every effort to compensate for the loss of car parks during works stages. During the course of the project construction period, car parking will continue to change and evolve.

Where will disabled parking be available during construction?

Council recognises the importance of providing easy access to disabled car parking, close to the Marina Redland Bay ferry terminal. Designated disabled car parking will be available to the north of the ferry terminal, within close walking distance. These changes will be made available for the construction of the multi-level car park from late 2026.

Will the bus still have access to the ferry terminal during construction?

Yes. Bus access to and from the Marina Redland Bay ferry terminal will continue throughout construction stages of the Weinam Creek PDA project.
