Becoming a member

Membership is free to residents of Redland City Council and Queensland. It’s easy to become a library member – at any age!

Joining online  

To join online or via the library app, you must be 16 years of age or older and have a valid email address. Starting September 2026,  when you join online, you will be registered with a digital membership. This allows immediate access to our online resources and computer use at the library. To borrow physical items, visit any Redland City Council Library branch and speak with staff to upgrade your membership. 

Digital members can: 

• access your library account 
• manage your account with the library app available on the Apple App Store or the Google Play Store  
• place reservations and requests 
• access our digital collections including eBooks, eAudiobooks, eMagazines, Kanopy movies and series and Freegal streaming music 
• access online learning, language and research resources 
• use free public computers 
• access genealogy and local history databases 
• print, copy and scan 

Reservations for physical items can be collected once your membership has been upgraded in person. 

Joining at a branch 

For a standard library membership, visit any of our libraries with a form of identification with your name on it.  

This could include a driver’s licence, 18+ card, Health Care Card, rates notice, student ID or bank card. Proof of address is not required. The form of identification may need to include date of birth in the case of age-restricted items such as DVDs and video games.  

If you are under 16, your parent or guardian will need to visit a branch to join you.  

Standard library members can also: 

• borrow up to 20 physical items (books, DVDs, magazines, audiobooks) for four weeks 
• reserve up to 20 items 
• return items to any Redland City Council Library or Mobile Library (after hours returns are available at all branches) 
• automatic renewal of items with no waitlist 
• book free meeting rooms 
• learn new skills and reserve equipment in our Makerspace 
• explore our Local History collection of physical and digitised resources about our local area 
• access our home library service if they are housebound or visually impaired

Library membership conditions

Redland City Council values you as a member of its library services and programs. As a member, you have rights and obligations that help us deliver a great library service.

We ask you to:

• take care of all library items and materials borrowed, and ensure that the items are returned by the due date or renew the items or materials as required
• notify us of any damage to, or loss of, any library items or materials, and promptly pay any relevant fees and charges associated with any damage or loss fees should they apply
• treat library staff and other customers with respect at all times
• obey the lawful direction of library staff at all times
• take full responsibility for the supervision of your children on library premises, and your children’s selection and use of library items and services, including access to the internet
• take responsibility for your safety and your personal property
• contact us to report lost or stolen membership cards, change of details or issues associated with the borrowing of library items or materials
• be open and honest in your dealings with us
• provide feedback to help us better understand your needs.
