Redlands Coast Young Citizen's Program 2026

The Redlands Coast Young Citizen’s Program seeks to empower students through partnerships with secondary schools, fostering civic participation and engagement on local issues that impact their lives. Young people can play an integral part in shaping the community by attending a series of free workshops facilitated by Redland City Council.

The Civics and Citizenship of the Humanities and Social Sciences learning area (QCAA) has been designed for students in years 7-10. Year 10 students have been identified as the appropriate age for these workshops due to the potential pathways that students may elect in years 11 and 12.

The final workshop for 2026 will take place on Thursday 29 October 2026 from 8.30am to 12.00pm.

Council recognises that young people make a significant contribution to the social, economic and cultural life of our community. Council is committed to the safe places and spaces in the city that accommodate the needs of young people and advocates for young people in the Redlands to learn, earn, and participate in the community.

Redlands Coast Young Citizen's Program is an outcome of the Redlands Coast Young People’s Action Plan 2024–2027.

Activate Redlands Coast Youth Week 

In recognition of the great work that our community and sporting organisations do, Redland City Council offers a funding support program for Activate Redlands Coast Youth Week events.

Redland City Council funded six not for profit community organisations to facilitate free activities for young people aged 12-24 years during Activate Redlands Coast Youth Week from 11 to the 19 April 2026. 

Since 2021, Funding for Activate Redlands Coast Youth Week has been an opportunity for not-for-profit organisations to not only provide free events and programs for young people, but it also supports increasing the capacity of organisations to reach young people that may not be aware of the services that organisations may provide such as counselling, financial literacy, and emergency relief support. 

Redlands Coast Youth Services Network

Redland City Council facilitates the Redlands Coast Youth Services Network that is made up of government agencies, peak bodies, and not for profit organisations. 

The purpose of the network is to build the capacity of the youth sector on Redlands Coast by supporting members to share information, develop ideas and form collaborative initiatives. 

Network objectives:

Share information about youth services, resources and innovations, and existing and emerging needs and service delivery gaps on the Redlands Coast. 

  • Encourage government and community representation at network meetings to take collaborative action through working groups, partnerships and initiatives that:
  • Build the capacity of youth sector.
  • Respond to existing and emerging local community needs and aspirations and contribute to an accessible and inclusive services and facilities.
  • Celebrate young people for Activate Redlands Coast Youth Week.
  • Facilitate the development and maintenance of a strong and cohesive sector which is respected and valued for its demonstrated integrity, professionalism and willingness to collaborate.
  • Create a sector that promotes capacity building initiatives which cultivate and shape individual and community resilience.

FREE Tech Support for Older Persons – Life Skills for Youngsters

Redland City Council in partnership with Capalaba Central and youngster.co, is delivering FREE tech support sessions for older members of the Redland Community. 

Need help with your phone, tablet or laptop?

  • Local young people will be available to help you with a free 30-minute one-on-one session
  • Sessions available until 26 October 2026
  • Mondays 10am–12pm (excluding the 5 October)
  • The Circle (next to NAB) Capalaba Central Shopping Centre
