SMBI Ferry Terminal Personal Mobility Device Parking Amenities

Help keep our ferry terminal safe

Council will shortly begin works to upgrade the ferry terminal’s parking amenities for personal mobility devices (including e-scooters, bikes and mobility scooters) at the ferry terminals on Lamb, Macleay, Russell and Karragarra Islands. We expect works to be carried out May-June 2026.

Clear access is essential for:

  • people with disability or vision impairment
  • families with prams
  • emergency situations
These minor operational improvements are aimed at making parking for registered personal mobility devices safer and more orderly at the ferry terminals. As they do not change access arrangements or service levels, and there are no broader impacts on the community, formal community consultation was not required. Clear signage is in place to help users navigate the area more easily.

Gangways are emergency exit routes and must not be obstructed. Please help us keep ferry access clear and safe for everyone by using the parking amenities provided.

Thank you for your cooperation.

Why can’t I leave my personal mobility device on or near the gangway?

Ferry terminal gangways are emergency exit routes and must be kept clear at all times. Leaving e‑scooters, bikes or mobility scooters on gangways can create safety risks, especially during busy periods or emergencies, and can block access for people with disability, vision impairment, parents with prams and emergency responders.

Where should I park my e scooter/bike/mobility scooter instead?

Please use the designated parking amenities provided. These areas are designed to keep pathways and gangways clear while still allowing convenient access for passengers using personal mobility devices.

Is anything being done to improve parking for our devices?

Yes. Council is upgrading parking amenities for personal mobility devices (such as e‑scooters, bikes and mobility scooters) at the ferry terminals on Lamb, Macleay, Russell and Karragarra Islands. Works are expected to take place between May and June 2026.
