Redland City Council and Seqwater will be rezoning a section of the water network in Capalaba on Tuesday 14 July 2026. Water supply in the rezone area will switch from Alexandra Hills Reservoir to Mount Cotton Reservoir, with the desired outcome being a reduction in pressure fluctuations some residences may have experienced.
The rezone area (see map below) includes a section south of Degan Road, south along Ney Road and Mt Cotton Road including Guyana Court, Stanley Street, Wildflower Street, Melaleuca Drive, Casuarina Court and Tipuana Drive.
Water quality will be maintained and no interruption of supply is expected. Council and Seqwater will work in partnership on future stages of this project.

The initial water rezoning was completed on Tuesday 14 July. Since then, Council has been actively monitoring water pressure across the area.
Data from loggers placed at the highest and lowest points of the rezoned area confirms that the rezone has resulted in substantial improvements in both water pressure and pressure stability. These improvements have been maintained since the rezone.

Results from both monitoring locations show a clear increase in overall pressure and a substantial reduction in fluctuations. This confirms that the rezone has delivered a more stable water supply across the monitored area.
For the area south of Degan Road, south along Ney Road and Mt Cotton Road including Guyana Court, Stanley Street, Wildflower Street, Melaleuca Drive, Casuarina Court and Tipuana Drive, it is proposed to rezone the source of drinking water so it comes from a different section of the network.
This means the water supply for properties in this rezone area will come from Mount Cotton Reservoir rather than the Alexandra Hills Reservoir, with the desired outcome being a reduction in pressure fluctuations that some residences have previously experienced.
Water quality will remain within Australian Drinking Water Guidelines.

In addition to the re-zone, Council has also installed infrastructure known as a Pressure Reducing Valve (PRV) in this section of the network to balance pressure.
Council and Seqwater will monitor network performance after the rezone and may consider further adjustments.
On 14 July 2026 you may see hydrants releasing a small amount of water to the street, this is normal and expected.
Flushing water pipes is commonly needed when undertaking works to the network. This is part of ensuring we maintain a reliable, safe water supply to the city.
Flushing usually involves releasing water through hydrants. Should you see this, please do not try to turn the hydrant off.
The pressure fluctuations are due to a complex interaction of pipes supplying drinking water from the Capalaba Water Treatment Plant, into the surrounding network and up to the Alexandra Hills Reservoir Complex.
Detailed pressure logging and hydraulic modelling have identified multiple stages of works may be needed to fully address these fluctuations.
