Australia Day Awards

Each year, Redland City Council recognises outstanding Redlands Coast residents and community organisations through our annual Australia Day Awards.
We acknowledge high-achieving community members who have made outstanding contributions and have given freely of their time, knowledge and enthusiasm to promote the welfare and wellbeing of the Redlands Coast community.

- Demonstrated selfless commitment and involvement in activities that promote the welfare and wellbeing of the community
- Open to individuals only.

Local Hero Award
|
- Outstanding dedication and contribution by an individual to one or more areas of Redlands Coast
- Demonstrated voluntary service, expertise and community leadership that has led to the betterment of the quality of life of others
- Open to individuals only.

Community Organisation Award
|
- Outstanding contribution by a voluntary service organisation to the wellbeing of Redlands Coast citizens
- Demonstrated commitment and delivery of a service to improve lives and opportunities for community members
- Open to organisations only.

Cultural Award
|
- Significant achievement by an individual or group who produces and promotes outstanding creative work in Redlands Coast
- Open to performers, musicians, actors, directors, etc who reside in Redlands Coast
- Building the capacity of local artists and cultural groups
- Open to individuals or organisations.

Environment and Sustainability Award
|
- Outstanding contribution and dedication by an individual or group to protect and enhance Redlands Coast’s natural environment and community amenity
- Open to individuals or organisations

Sports Award
|
- Significant achievement by an individual or group for their contribution to sport in Redlands Coast and beyond
- Open to individuals or organisations.
|
Reconciliation Award
|
- Significant achievement by an individual or group who are actively working on reconciliation between our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and non-Indigenous people in Redlands Coast
- Open to individuals or organisations.

How to nominate
- Make sure you have time to nominate
Submitting a nomination typically takes around 20 minutes. You’ll be able to save your submission and resume later if you need more time.

- Check eligibility
Make sure that your nominee:
- Is an Australian Citizen and resides within Redlands Coast; or
- If they are a group or organisation they must be located and operate within Redlands Coast
- Nominations for minors (under 18) must have the consent and contact details of the nominee’s parent or guardian
- They have not been a winner of a Redlands Coast Australia Day Award in the past three years.

You will need the following information to complete and submit a nomination:
- Personal details for your nominee
- A photo of the nominee
- Any additional images, videos or documentation to support the nomination.

Terms and conditions
- All nominees must be an Australian citizen and reside within Redland City at the time of nomination
- Nominations must be made online via the official website link provided by Redland City Council. Nominators will receive a confirmation email if their nomination has been submitted correctly
- Groups or community organisations that are nominated must be located and operate in Redland City
- A photo of the nominee must be submitted with the nomination
- Supporting evidence should be attached to the nomination. This should describe the nominee’s outstanding service and include examples that best demonstrate their achievement and contribution. As a guide, you may wish to consider some of the following questions:
- In what role or area has the nominee excelled?
- How has the nominee demonstrated service worthy of recognition?
- How has the nominee’s contribution impacted on a particular field, locality, group or community?
- Over what period has the nominee made a major commitment?
- A candidate may be nominated in only one award category per nomination
- Nominations for minors (those under 18 years of age) must have the consent of the nominee’s parent or guardian and provide the parent or guardian’s contact detail
- Winners of an Australia Day Award in the last three years are not eligible for nomination
- Nominations must be specific to the individual/group being nominated
- Nominations close at 11.59pm on Friday 14 November 2025. Late nominations or supporting documentation will not be accepted.
Judging process
- An initial pre-assessment check of nominations will be undertaken to confirm basic entry criteria has been met, that nominees uphold Council values and are not involved in conduct that may bring disrepute to Council, the community, or its operations
- Nominations that do not meet these requirements will not be accepted and the nominator will be notified
- Nominations will be reviewed and evaluated by the judging panel who will make their decision on shortlisted finalists and winners based on the criteria for each award and the supporting information provided with the nomination
- Judges reserve the right to consider any nomination for any award category
- Judges reserve the right to deem a nomination void or not appropriate
- Only shortlisted finalists and their nominators will be invited to the Awards presentation dinner to take place in January
- The judges’ decisions are final, and no further correspondence will be considered
- Nominees who were not successful in being shortlisted as a finalist will not receive an invitation to the event
- Nominees who were not successful in being shortlisted will not be mentioned in any event communications
- Nominees who were not successful in being shortlisted will not receive a letter of nomination.
