Community Champions
Community Champions are trained local volunteers who support the Redlands Coast community during emergencies.
These volunteers can open an Evacuation Centre in order to provide shelter, food and water for their local community, and work in conjunction with the Redland City Local Disaster Management Group to support their communities during a disaster.
The Community Champions program was first developed after the 2016 Russell Island and Macleay Island fires, where urgent evacuation was required for residents seeking shelter.
The program is especially important on our islands because these communities can be isolated for hours or longer during emergencies, making local volunteers essential.
What Community Champions do

- Contribute invaluable local knowledge and expertise to assist in all aspects of disaster management
