Nature positive planning

Council’s Natural Environment Policy(PDF, 383KB) ensures its commitment to protecting, enhancing and restoring the health and viability of the city’s natural assets.

The Birkdale Community Precinct Master Plan(PDF, 3MB), endorsed by Council on 15 March 2023, provides the concept plan for how Council will care for and develop this community 62-hectare parkland over the next 20 years.

Birkdale Community Precinct comprises a 39-hectare Conservation Management Area. The balance of the site includes a proposed development footprint, which forms an hourglass shape across the centre of the site. This mostly cleared area was previously used for farming and a radio communications base during World War II. Two protected heritage areas – Willards Farm and the former World War II Radio Receiving Station – are showcased within this footprint.

Council will soon self-refer the Birkdale Community Precinct for assessment under the Federal Government’s Environment and Protection Biodiversity Conservation (EBPC) Act 1999.
