Redlands Coast residents can help celebrate the history, culture and achievements of First Nations Peoples at the Minjerribah Moorgumpin Elders-In-Council 2022 NAIDOC Community Day at Dunwich on Minjerribah (North Stradbroke Island) on Saturday 17 September.
The Redland City Council-sponsored event will offer a special insight into Quandamooka culture and an opportunity for the broader community to learn more and show support for reconciliation.
The day will include a Welcome to Country at the Terra Bulla Leumeah Conservation Reserve, along with a smoking ceremony, singing and dancing, cultural activities and performances, as well as bush tucker and stalls, and everyone is welcome. It will run from 10am-2pm, with a free bus running to and from the event from the Dunwich ferry terminal.
The community day, which was postponed from July due to bad weather, will embrace the powerful themes of NAIDOC Week 2022 – Get Up! Stand Up! Show up! and is a great opportunity for Redlands Coast residents and visitors to show recognition of the valuable contribution of all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and work towards a future of mutual respect and harmony.
The event site at Terra Bulla Leumeah has been used as a campsite by the First Nations Peoples of the Quandamooka region for countless generations that span thousands of years.
