Waste transfer stations

With the introduction of waste transfer stations there is no need for residents to visit landfills.

Residents can unload waste at the transfer stations into large open topped bins. The site operator then takes the waste to Council’s Birkdale landfill.

Before using our waste transfer stations, you must report to the gatehouse attendant. They will ask you about the type of waste you're disposing and give directions on where the waste should be taken.

  • Charges
Council has introduced gate fees at its tips and transfer stations as part of the new Budget, which will commence in December 2008.
Until then, there is no charge for residents using our waste transfer stations. However charges may apply depending on the type of material you are dumping. If you are disposing of commercial waste, rates apply.
  • Locations and opening hours
The Birkdale and Redland Bay waste transfer stations are open from 7am to 5pm (arrive by 4.45pm).
  • Recycling at transfer stations
We encourage you to recycle at our waste transfer stations and prevent landfill. Check our list of what materials we accept.
  • Site rules
To ensure everyone's health and safety, there are some guidelines that apply when you use our waste handling facilities.
