Alexandra Hills

For those just looking for a great picnic spot to take the family and relax, Valantine Park on Valantine Road has a children's playground, picnic tables, cricket nets and a number of walking trails.

Cleveland

Raby Bay is a popular spot for kite flyers with its sandy beaches and wide, open spaces. With plenty of parkland and safe beaches, the area is great for those with children. Raby Harbour Foreshore Park runs along the Raby Bay marina and provides a spectacular harbour view. Close to restaurants and Cleveland train station, the park has barbecues, play equipment, sheltered picnic facilities and walking tracks.

Coochiemudlo Island

Regular water taxis and vehicle barges depart from the Victoria Point jetty (Colburn Avenue), and it is just a five-minute trip to Coochie.  There is a great park for picnics right near the jetty. The whole family will enjoy the white sandy beaches and the turquoise waters are extremely inviting on a hot summer's day. 

North Stradbroke Island

For the day tripper, Dunwich offers an island experience just 30 minutes by water taxi from the mainland. A picnic beneath the massive camphor-laurel trees on the foreshore is an ideal way to spend an afternoon. There are also several eateries and shops within walking distance from the ferry.

Myora Springs, 4kms along East Coast Road, is well worth a visit and has a grassy picnic area and swimming hole. Myora Springs is a pristine source of natural spring water surrounded by a small tropical forest.

Brown Lake is easy to get to by conventional vehicle, and has amenities such as picnic tables and BBQs. The natural bushland surrounding the lake is home to many delicate wildflowers, including small ground orchids. The Aboriginal name for Brown Lake is Bummeira.  To access Brown Lake, drive 3.5kms from Dunwich along the sealed Trans Island Road.

Redland Bay

The Sel Outridge Park (Hamilton Street) is great for a family game of cricket or football. The park has barbeque facilities and playground equipment.

Wellington Point

Wellington Point is often referred to as a quaint seaside village boasting a picturesque main street, waterside picnic areas, parklands and easy access to the sparkling waters of Moreton Bay.

It has long been a popular picnic spot for families and a haven for those who love the water. The waterfront park area has sheltered tables, barbeques and swings to keep the children busy. Alternatively, you could spread out your rug beneath a huge old banyan tree which provides cool shade on even the steamiest of summer days, while the children paddle in the sea.

Victoria Point

Thompson's Beach (Thompson Street) is an ideal spot for picnics and is very safe for swimming. The park has barbeque facilities, a children's playground and pleasant amenities.  It is a popular destination for family outings, due to its picturesque views and relaxing atmosphere.

The green lawns, flowering gardens and waterways of the Cascade Gardens (Colburn Avenue), offer a tranquil setting which is popular for family gatherings and weddings. There are barbeque facilities, swings and a skateboard ramp at the park.
