Redlands Cycling & Pedestrian Strategy
The
Redlands Bicycle Advisory Committee (RedBAC) initiated the preparation of the RCPS in June 2000 as a response to the regional cycling strategy - Cycle South East, which required local authorities to develop a strategic plan to encourage and promote more safer cycling.
Transport 2016 covers a range of transport issues including:
- public transport
- cycling
- walking
- road network
- freight
- land use
- environment
- social constraints and
- travel demand management.
The RCPS builds on the recommendations of Transport 2016 and serves as a companion document to this local transport plan.
Redland City Council has developed the RCPS with input from the community and key stakeholder groups. The strategy provides a planning framework to make a safer and more attractive cycling and walking environment within the Redlands. Its aim is to encourage greater cycling and walking activity and establish a comprehensive and convenient cycling and pedestrian network.
The strategy reflects Council’s support for walking and cycling, and the growing emphasis on integrated and sustainable transport policies, which seek to reduce car dependency throughout the Redlands for daily trips.
In order to achieve these goals Transport 2016 and RCPS will provide practical solutions to:
- encourage greater cycling and walking in the community with particular attention to safety, convenience and provision of facilities
- reduce the need to travel by car by ensuring land use distributions and intensities support walking, cycling and public transport use
- identify improvements to the cycling and walking network to support an increase in cycling and walking trips.
