Answers
An offsite parking facility is being established to ease the pressure on car parking at Weinam Creek and provide commuters with more choice.
The new facility will provide secure, allocated parking. The car park will be located a reasonable distance from the ferry terminal and will be serviced in both directions by a shuttle bus. There will be no time limits at this facility so you will be able to leave your car and use it as often or as little as you like. The car park will be fenced and lit, supported by CCTV surveillance and overseen by an attendant. You will need to purchase an annual pass to use this facility.
Once the offsite facility becomes operational the existing compound at Weinam Creek will be changed to a permit parking area. Commuters who purchase an annual permit will be able to park within the designated area. You will not be allocated a bay so you will need to search for a car park each time you require one.
The cost of these permits will be $200 per annum, rising to $400 per annum over a three year price path.
Council is considering a number of sites but a decision won’t be made until the demand for the facility has been determined.
Each of the sites currently being considered are within the Redland Bay area.
Once the demand has been determined a site will be selected and Council will obtain the necessary planning approvals and start construction.
Further information will be provided before you will be required to pay a small deposit to secure your bay.
Bays at the offsite facility will be allocated on a ‘first come first served’ basis.
During December Council is offering people with a car park within the existing Weinam Creek parking compound the first opportunity to reserve a bay at the offsite facility. These registrations are not binding and no payment is required. Once a site has been selected and bays are being formally allocated, a small deposit will be required.
In the New Year registrations will be accepted by those people who had previously had their name on the waiting list for a park at Weinam Creek and then applications will be opened up to the general public.
Fees for the offsite facility will be $950 per annum, rising to $1,150 per annum over a three year price path.
Permits will need to be purchased annually in advance each year.
Registrations are now being accepted from those people with a car park at the Weinam Creek compound. Registrations can be made by returning the form mailed to these users, online at Council’s website [insert link], or in person at Customer Service centres.
A shuttle bus will provide a direct link from the offsite facility to the ferry terminal at Weinam Creek and will be timed to integrate with the ferry timetable. The unlimited use of the shuttle bus is included in the annual charge for the offsite car park.
The shuttle bus will be operated to suit the demand from commuters, which is why it’s important to provide details of your travel patterns when you register.
