Desexing your pet

Council offers incentives for desexing your cat or dog. It is not compulsory to desex your pet although it is encouraged.
Registration of desexed pets is less than entire cats or dogs. For example, registration fees for a desexed dog is currently only $48.30 compared to $94.40 for entire male/female dog (over six months old).
Desexed pets generally live longer and healthier lives. They are less prone to wander, fight and less likely to get lost or inured. Desexing reduces territorial behaviour, such as spraying. It also eliminates ‘heat’ cycles in female cats and their efforts to get outside in search for males. In dogs, desexing eliminates male dogs’ urge to ‘mount’ peoples’ legs.
Dumping puppies or kittens is unethical as well as being illegal and inhumane.
