Pollution prevention

We must all play our part in protecting the environment. There are many simple ways that we can help to minimise our impact on the surroundings and promote sustainability.
Community’s responsibility
Some things that we can do to help protect our environment include:
- Wash vehicles and pets on grassed areas
Never pour anything down a stormwater drain or into the roadside gutter. Remember, stormwater is not treated before it reaches our waterways
- Store dirt stockpiles away from the road to prevent sediment getting into the stormwater
Never burn waste vegetation and other matter. Dispose of responsibly to a transfer station or via other appropriate methods
- Notify Council of any harm being done to the environment, including pollution of waterways, mud on roadways, contamination of soil etc.
- Reduce, reuse, recycle waste
Council’s Environmental Compliance Team
Redland City Council’s Environmental Compliance Team protects the environment by regulating and educating local industry and the community.
Emergency response – how can we help?
Environmental Health officers are available 24/7 for investigation and advice in emergency response. We respond to issues such as chemical spills, fish kills, health threats and emergency activities. Our role is to prevent and minimise environmental harm and protect public safety. We use investigative and evidence collecting skills to identify the causes of pollution and to prevent further occurrences. The team also make school visits to teach students about pollution issues through the
Young Citizen’s Program.
