Redlands Wildlife Care Network
The Redlands Wildlife Care Network was set up to facilitate the care of injured wildlife and understanding of local fauna.
The 24-hour wildlife rescue services are run by:
• Redlands Wildlife Care Network (8am to 5pm)
• Redlands After-hours Wildlife Ambulance (5pm-8am)
The support network helps to make the lives of our carers a little easier. This support volunteer group consists of just anyone who can help in any way – from knitting and sewing, donations of materials, cage building, rescue, monitoring surveys, identification, advice, research, temporary housing, release sites and native food supply.
There are so many ways residents can lend a hand – even giving carers a night off with a bit of “baby sitting” is something very much appreciated.
Perhaps the most important aspect is the wildlife rescue phone line which is manned by trained volunteers to field calls from the public. This service grew in response to concerns from the local community who have often been unsuccessful in their attempts to find help for the injured animal. Volunteers provide advice or organise a carer or support volunteer to contact the carer – thus allaying the anxiety of callers.
If you are interested in joining our network as a carer, you will need to be registered with a wildlife organisation.
To learn more about our unique fauna, come along to our Wildlife Care Support Network meetings held at Redlands IndigiScapes Centre, 17, Runnymede Road, Capalaba (Ph 3824 8611) every first Monday of each month. Guest speakers will focus on different animals at the meetings and you can meet our wildlife officers there.
