Animal and plant pests in the Redlands
Council is responsible for coordinating the management of declared animal and plant pests in the Redlands.
Declared animals and plants must be controlled by the landowner, according to Land Protection (Pest and Stock Route Management) Act 2002 and Local Law No 13 (Control of Pests).
It is illegal to introduce, take for commercial use, sell, supply or transport declared pests without permission from the Department of Natural Resources and Mines.
Our animal management team assists with the control of declared animals and provide advice and traps. Phone 3829 8261 or email us.
Our land management team can assist you with the control of declared plants by providing advice, and by putting you in contact with a weed control contractor. Phone 3829 8588 or email us.
A non-declared pest is one not declared under the Land Protection Act 2002 or Local Law No 13 (Control of Pests) but due to local economic, social or environmental impacts, needs to be monitored and managed by all landowners. Check the Redland's list of non-declared pests by clicking on the link below.
Redlands IndigiScapes offers a lot of information, advice and community programs that deal with declared and non-declared pests and their control. Weed specimens can be taken to IndigiScapes for identification.
The new Your Backyard Garden program provides an extension officer to visit gardens and provide free advice. Ring IndigiScapes on 3824 8611 to find out if your property qualifies for a visit. Land for Wildlife and Rural Support Programs are available to assist residents on larger properties.
Management of Lyngbya, other coastal algal blooms and harmful algae in Moreton Bay is being addressed by Council’s proactive inspection program and the Draft South East Queensland Healthy Waterways Strategy.
