Greywater use
Greywater is wastewater coming from the bath, shower, bathroom sink and laundry.
The Greywater Use Policy
[PDF 33KB] and Guideline
[PDF 278KB] were adopted by Council on 1 March 2006.
This means we now accept applications for greywater use facilities for garden irrigation (Class 1a buildings in sewered areas only).
Greywater use facilities manage the distribution of greywater generated in the home for garden irrigation.
The policy and guideline help facilitate new provisions of the Plumbing and Drainage and Other Legislation Amendment Act 2005.
They also help:
- with installing, modifying and operating greywater use facilities in sewered areas
- lessen domestic reliance on mains water for garden irrigation
- protect the Redlands waterways by reducing greywater outflow
- raise community awareness of an alternative water source and encourage sustainable water use.
Kitchen greywater does not apply to this policy due to the presence of food particles and oils.
Copies of the policy and guideline are also available for purchase from Council’s Customer Service Centres located at:
- Corner of Bloomfield and Middle Streets, Cleveland;
Noeleen Street, Capalaba. - For further information contact Land Use Planning Group on 07 3829 8705.
