Vegetation Enhancement Strategy
The Vegetation Enhancement Strategy (VES)
[PDF 2.3MB] is a Council approved landscaping document for the Redlands and serves as a reference for any landscaping or restoration work.
It provides clear specification for native species revegetation practices undertaken by Council, community, developers, Energex and other stakeholders to improve habitat value and management across Redlands.
The 2007 version includes
- Considerations before planting such as surveillance, plant traits, risk, planting location tenure, weeds, Local Law No 6 (Protection of Vegetation), non conforming landscape and koala food species
- Plant association areas. Fourteen (14) broad vegetation association have been identified through correlating soil types and remnant vegetation
- Species selection lists such as suitable street trees, koala food trees, number of plants required etc
- Declared and environmental weeds, invasive and poisonous plants
- Maps of Vegetation Enhancement Zone
The strategy also provides detailed lists of
- plant species to use throughout the Redlands
- weed species currently having an impact on the Redlands and
- weed species which could have potential impacts on the Redlands.
The species lists provide information on the size, form and aesthetic qualities of indigenous vegetation suitable for landscaping. They also provide information on plant and weed species suitable for wet areas, koalas, salty environments and streetscapes.
