Background
Wellington Point Reserve is located on Main Road, Wellington Point. It has been used for recreational purposes for over 200 years.
In the late 1800s the reserve had a designated bathing area and dressing sheds.
Over time, the reserve has been used for picnicking, walking to King Island and was also a popular camping area. During the war, it was used by the US Navy. A series of gun pits were built for shooting practice.
It is a special place that allows people from all walks of life to appreciate the bay first hand and enjoy the open space.
In 2003 Council undertook community consultation with a view to create a plan to revitalise the reserve and ensure it could meet the needs of existing and future generations.
