With such a unique and beautiful natural environment, we need to dispose of rubbish thoughtfully.

In the Redlands, penalities apply to people who litter and dump waste.

• Cigarette butts make up 73% of litter items in the Redlands.
• Toxic chemicals from cigarette butts reduce water quality.
• Cigarette butts harm birdlife, sea turtles and other marine animals.
• Lit cigarette butts can cause bushfires.
• Most of the litter in the Redlands is found on the roadside.
• A significant cause of roadside litter is not having loads secured.
• Parking areas and shopping centres are high litter areas.
• Outdoor dining generates a lot of wind-blown litter.

Be responsible

• Regularly clear your letterbox of junk mail and put it in the recycling bin.
• Secure your load on the way to the tip.
• Butt it then bin it.
• Use a personal ash tray.
• Pick up litter if you see it lying around.
• Say NO to plastic bags.
