Division 4 Victoria Point & Coochiemudlo Island
Introducing Councillor Peter Dowling
Welcome to my home page where you will learn a bit more about me, my family, my experiences and my thoughts for the future.
I was born in August 1961. I’ve been married to Helen for 26 years and we have two children, a daughter aged 22 and a son aged 17 years.
Since moving into the area 16 years ago I’ve been very active in the community. Some of my many interests include Neighbourhood Watch, school P&Cs, Progress Association, litter prevention, Eprapah Creek Bushcare, and assisting sporting clubs with sign-on days and fund raising.
Before joining local government I was in the retail consumer goods market and the oil industry as an accounts manager responsible for many major outlets.
Fitness is something that I really focus on. I have a gruelling regime, which includes paddling a surf ski, usually around Coochiemudlo Island, at least twice a week. I also enjoy cycling and have completed the Brisbane to Gold Coast 100km ride and the Bicycle Queensland family 50km ride, both charity events.
As a spectator, I enjoy soccer and motor sport. Some have suggested that I should remain a spectator when it comes to golf as I’ve been called the worst golfer in the Redlands — obviously due to lack of practice!
The most challenging part of each day for me is time management — juggling the day-to-day requirements of the office, family and fitness.
Paperwork and phone calls are often squeezed in between the meetings and formal engagements. My family copes very well with my timetable and I value their support.
This is my second term as councillor. I was first elected in 2000. I’ve worked to make myself available to the residents in my division by attending community meetings, being involved in school committees, door knocking and accepting as many invitations to functions as I can. This ensures I am well informed about local issues and I am confident that I am in touch with the views of the community.
By the end of this term of office in March 2008, we will have delivered some very exciting changes in the Redlands. Changes that come from sound fiscal management, which makes us one of the best ranked councils in Queensland.
What we’ve delivered:
- Victoria Point Library
- Cineplex Cinema, Victoria Point
- A comprehensive litter strategy
- Strategies to reduce graffiti
- Sewer for Coochiemudlo Island
Your contribution and input on any issue is vital to make sure we get it right. To balance the population growth with the needs of the environment and retain the lifestyle that we so enjoy. I sincerely welcome comments on any issue and look forward to helping shape the Redlands, in particular Victoria Point and surrounds, into the future.
Thank you,
Cr Peter Dowling
