About Council

Redland City Council was formed in 1949 as Redland Shire Council. The Local Government Reform Commission approved Council's name change after the 15 March election.

The Redland City Council is the local government authority for the Redlands, which includes the Southern Moreton Bay Islands, North Stradbroke Island and areas on the mainland.

Shire divisions The area is bordered by Brisbane, Gold Coast and Logan cities.

The Council consists of a Mayor and 10 Councillors.

While Councillors are in charge of making decisions that govern the city, Council staff are responsible for carrying out operations to support these decisions.

Council operates under a five year Corporate Plan which sets out how we intend to meet the present and future needs of our community.

The success of our Corporate Plan is measured through our Annual Report, key achievements against the Corporate Plan and external audits.

The Corporate Plan also determines the annual Operational Plan and Budget.
