Redlands Advisory Group on Seniors Issues (RAGOSI)

The Redlands Advisory Group on Seniors Issues (RAGOSI) was established by Council from a recommendation in the report ‘Tackling Social Isolation in the Redlands Senior’s Community’.
This report was prepared and submitted by the Redlands Social Isolation Advisory Group (RSIAG), a coalition of community agencies and service providers interested in advancing the needs of older residents.
What does RAGOSI do?
RAGOSI provides information, practical support, effective community-based advocacy and participates in active discussion and debate with Redland City Council representatives to enhance Council’s initiatives developed under
Ageing Well in the Redlands: A ten-year strategy for seniors [PDF 208MB] to realise the vision of age-friendly communities strengthened by the contribution of seniors.
Our work enables older people to:
- maintain and enhance quality of life
- further active participation in the community.
How does RAGOSI work?
From October 2008, RAGOSI will meet every two months.
Chaired by Mayor Melva Hobson, it comprises 10 community representatives and two Councillors. The Community Development Officer – Seniors provides Secretariat support to RAGOSI to ensure Council is on track to deliver our vision for seniors.
RAGOSI’s objectives are:
- Provide a communication pathway to Redland City Council that is inclusive of all seniors voices.
- Utilise the expertise of seniors and the community to bring new perspectives to existing and emerging issues.
- Raise community awareness about the issues that impact on older people.
- Promote the active participation of seniors in the Redlands community.
- Provide advice on the need for, and/or the appropriateness of, services and facilities for older people within the Redland community.
- Advocate for initiatives that support the identified needs of older people.
