Redland Conversations
The Redland Conversations series is a chance for residents to discuss their views on the Redlands and its future. This is an ongoing initiative to encourage resident participation in Council decision making.
The Mayor and councillors are present at the sessions and are keen to hear from residents and local business operators on matters of particular interest or concern to them. The aim is to engage with the community and ensure they are informed, and have the opportunity to share their views and ultimately contribute to Council’s decision making process.
The first Redland Conversation, held in April 2008, was the first of what is now an ongoing series of forums through which local residents and business operators can discuss matters of interest or concern. Nearly 50 people attended the first session, with key topics including land use planning, the environment and development assessment processes in the Redlands.
The forums are already proving their worth, with Council directly addressing a number of issues raised. Feedback from earlier forums indicated people appreciated the opportunity to share their views and were keen to participate in other community engagement activities.
All conversations are documented and contribute in making future decisions on a range of topics. All issues raised are followed up where further action is required. Council is now looking at ways to improve the structure of the forums, to maximise effectiveness of the sessions.
Redland Conversations are held every six to eight weeks in locations around the Redlands. The crowd is usually diverse, including senior citizens, island residents, new residents, and business owners.
Come along to the next session, and take the opportunity to participate in conversations about matters affecting the Redlands!
