Council election delayed
New date for Candidates information evening
If you are nominating as a candidates for the 2012 Redland City Council elections on 28 April, you are invited to a candidates’ information evening. Please note: this information evening has been postponed from the previously advertised date of 1 March, as local government elections in Queensland have been delayed due to the imminent state government election.
When: Thurs 29 March, 5.30-7.45pm
Where: North and South Stradbroke Rooms
Level 1, Redland City Council main administration building, Cleveland
Council CEO, Gary Stevenson and General Managers will brief candidates about the roles and responsibilities of councillors, key responsibilities and priorities for each department, financial management and strategic planning.
This session is only for candidates who have nominated before the closing date of 28 February 2012. Call Charmaine Shakespeare on 3829 8280 to book or for more information.

Rate Notices have been issued

Residents are reminded rates are due Monday 13 February 2012. After this date, interest will accrue at 11% per annum, compound interest calculated on daily balances. A full list of payment options is on the front of your rates notice.

Join the new IndigiKids club!
Are you 8 to 12 years old and love the environment? If so, come along to the first IndigiKids Environment Club meeting. As a member of IndigiKids, you will get to participate in all kinds of fun activities and workshops based around the local environment – some will even involve getting your hands dirty!

Indigenous Art Exhibitions
Redland Art Gallery
Sunday 5 February – Sunday 11 March 2012
The first two exhibitions for 2012 at Redland Art Gallery, Cleveland showcase the diversity of Indigenous art pieces around Australia.
Insight: The Hermannsburg Potters Collection of the Moreton Bay Region and Highlights: Indigenous artworks from the Redland Art Gallery Collection can be viewed from Sunday 5 February.
You are invited to the official launch 5.30pm, Tuesday 14 February. The event will include a Welcome to Country by Aunty Joan Hendriks and a performance by Yulu Burri-Ba dancers.

Recycle for free at Council’s mainland waste transfer stations
Clearing out after Christmas? Cardboard, polystyrene, scrap metal, white goods, gas bottles and household recyclables are just a few of the recyclable items that you can drop off for free.
And remember, if you’re disposing of other waste at the transfer station and your load has 50% or more of recyclables items, sorted separately and clearly identifiable from other waste, disposal is also free!
