Division 9 Capalaba
Councillor Karen Williams
Cr Williams was born in Capalaba, grew up on her family’s farm and has lived the majority of her life in the Redlands.
She spent her senior year of High School as a Rotary Exchange Student in Racine, Wisconsin, USA. Returning home, she studied toward a Bachelor of Arts in Humanities and later went on to work in the domestic money market in Brisbane and Sydney.
While living in Sydney, she began to sing and perform regularly on the club circuit, which became her ancillary job for many years after. Her musical talents have taken her abroad to Asia and to many destinations throughout Australia and New Zealand. She is a well known and respected independent Country Music singer / songwriter.
Her other experience includes owning two successful retail floral studios for eight years with her husband Peter in Bulimba and Coorparoo. More recently, Karen has successfully completed a Diploma with the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
For many years, she has been involved with the Redland Spring Festival (formerly the Redland Strawberry Festival) both as a committee member and on the executive. She is currently the first female chair for this organisation.
As a dedicated mother of two daughters, Karen believes in preserving the same sense of community and security she feels privileged to have grown up within the Redlands.
