Council elections
The 2012 local government election was held on Saturday 28 April. Elections are held every four years in Queensland. In the Redlands, voters elect one Mayor, and vote for a Councillor to represent the Division in which they live. There are 10 Divisions in the Redlands.

State elections
Queensland is divided into 89 distinct areas known as electoral districts. Each district is represented by a single Member of Parliament (MP). A Queensland General Election is actually 89 separate elections, being for each electoral district. The results of these elections are added together and the majority group or party forms Government. Voting is compulsory
You have to vote if you:
- are over 18 years
- are an Australian citizen
- have lived for at least one month in a Queensland electoral district
- are a British subject who is not an Australian citizen, but who was on the Commonwealth of Australia electoral roll on 25 January 1984 or the Queensland electoral roll as at 31 December 1991
