Council has four standing committees and one Advisory Committee:
Committee meetings have defined roles and responsibilities. Elected members and senior Council employees discuss matters and explore all matters relevant to the decision-making process.
The responsibility for making final decisions rests with the Councillors through an open vote.
Council employees don't vote on decisions. Their role is to provide independent advice to the Councillors and help them make a decision.
Committee recommendations form the basis of reports to the monthly General Meeting of Council, where collectively Council makes final decisions, except in the case of the Development Assessment Committee which has authority to make some decisions without going to the General Meeting.
