Petition

A petition is a formal request signed by at least ten persons and placed before Council with the object of persuading Council to take some particular action.
Petitioning is one of the traditional forms by which citizens can make requests direct to Council.
A petition must be signed directly by persons whose names are listed on it. It is addressed to the relevant divisional
councillor or Chief Executive Officer, Redland City Council, and posted to PO Box 21, Cleveland 4163 or handed to
Customer Service Centres at Cleveland or Capalaba.
What happens to a petition
A petition to Redland City Council will be presented by the relevant divisional councillor to a General Meeting of Council.
The petition cannot be debated at the meeting where it is presented.
In accordance to the Council's Meetings Law, the relevant Councillor may move that the petition be received and referred to the relevant area of Council for a report to a Committee; or other motion as moved from time to time
Following consideration at a Committee meeting, a recommendation is made by the Committee to a subsequent General Meeting for a decision.
When a decision has been made
The principal petitioner will be advised in writing of council's decision, following the relevant General Meeting.
